When did primitive sites go down in price. I was there the 22nd and 23rd last month and it was $20 a tent. It was $42.40 for a two night stay. I wish it had been cheaper then I would have stayed four nights instead of two.

We came, we saw, we kicked it’s tail! Lorelai has been talking about “making it to the end” of Auxier Ridge since she was I believe 4 years old and mostly hiking on my back. So, today, we made it and surpassed it!
This little champion hiker not only made it to one of the best views in all of Red River Gorge, but all the way to Courthouse Rock and then around to the lower trail to loop back. Several miles of hiking! And, we did almost all of it in the pouring rain! We decided the rain keeps the bugs down and the temperature on the ridge. She wasn’t stopping and we had a blast!
Fun photos, holding hands, marching through puddles and beautiful views. The adventure girl stayed positive all but about 30 minutes of the entire hike! Those 30 minutes I carried her. She’s a bit bigger now than before, but I survived. Finally got her shoes back on too! I don’t condone ever hiking without shoes, but she’s stubborn and a bit feral, so there’s that.
Also, for anyone taking the lower trail back around from Courthouse Rock, that last 10 minutes or so os a doozy! We dubbed it “the grand finale” as it’s straight up the cliff side practically holding on to roots. Even more challenging in the rain! She was so proud to make it to the top! Wet hair, grinning ear to ear. She then wanted to hike herself out even though I said I could carry her. She was determined!
After that, it was back off to Callies Campground in Red River Gorge for swimming in the lake as promised even if it was rainy, and of course it was. More friends, a little ice cream and we were off to the house! Worn out, full of joy and accomplishment, a couple of full hearts completed our adventure!
Here’s to next time, and better sleeping pads!

There weee several options of what we were going to do from wheeling to hiking, and of course the girl chose hiking “with water please”. Creation Falls via Rock Bridge Trail here we come!
We adventured, we laughed, we made jokes, and then the little one went 100% “swimmy fish” and played forever in the water until the sun turned to rain.
We were supposed to hit a “secret” backwoods camping spot, but we opted for our tried and true Callies Campground in Red River Gorge due to sand on the girl for literally head to toe. Shower amenities required! But, that worked out. Made some friends and found a spot way in the back all by ourselves.
The girl has been requesting a “tent camping” trip for weeks. Enter brand new fast setup tent, hotdogs over the fire, sparklers, headlamp rope swinging and staying up way too late chatting by the magic campfire.
Cheers to a successful day one!
